Yield+ for Canola, a phosphate solubilizing Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria is now available to US canola growers.  This innovative new product received Canadian Registration in 2017. Easy-to-use, this biological product has increased canola yields 7% on average or 3-4 bu/acre (2012-18 public/private field trials). XiteBio® Yield+ can be applied in-furrow with liquid fertilizer at seeding, or as an early post-application that is tank-mixed with herbicide.

Canadian canola growers have been impressed with XiteBio® Yield+ for Canola for its consistent agronomic performance across a wide range of growing conditions and ease of use. “US Canola Growers need to try this innovative, new product,” noted Jim Johnson, US Distributor, XiteBio®/Star Specialty Seed. “This biological (Bacillus firmus) was the first phosphate-solubilizing bacteria registered by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency; tough hurdle to reach as products need to prove efficacy to be granted approval,” added Johnson.
“We are always looking for something to boost yields”, stated Dan Bullinger, a canola grower from Bottineau, ND.  Yield+ is easy to use; just add the ready-to-go bladder to the herbicide tank mix. “We average around 40 bu/ac. on our farm,” added Bullinger. This product has potential to provide a real benefit to canola growers.

XiteBio® Yield+ for Canola benefits the crop in multiple ways. Phosphate solubilization unlocks bound phosphorus from the soil for use by the plant.  The bacteria also release plant hormones that tell the plant to ramp up its root and shoot growth. The multiple modes of action of Yield+ help to achieve increased yield and stability.  The most noticeable differences observed with Yield+ canola are more vigorous plants, better roots and improved pod development (see photo below). “We definitely saw a difference in our canola crop,” commented Hazen, ND canola grower, Ryan Miller. “The plant and root system look healthier, with more and longer pods.  We will be using Yield+ again next year on our canola,” added Ryan.
